Hi Jacqui,

Thanks for your input. In the end this is pretty much what we decided to do! We call the additional meetings side orders.

I know it all seems like a very complicated and involved process, it's more to do with our commitment to making decisions through consensus than everyone having their preference, which as you say is pretty much impossible.

For me consensus is really important from a pastoral perspective. If you've been in a formal religious setting and experienced 'heavy sheparding' you'll know what I mean when I say it's important that nobody feels they are being made to do something they don't want to do, and they have a chance to say no.

Anyway, good luck finding a philosophical non-religious group, and if you're in the bristol area you're always more than welcome to come along to threshold.

Hi

I am not a member of your community but I was looking up philosophical non-religious groups for when I return to the UK in the summer and saw your website.

I must say, things do appear to have become a little complicated here. At the end of the day, why does there have to be so much discussion about who will meet when? Why not just have your regular meeting (I know some of you don't like the formality of this but that is the reality of joining a group) but each of you can then post additional meet ups for other things when you want to do them. See how many responses you get for each meet up and then decide whether it will go ahead. If you are meeting in a pub, there need only be 2 of you minimum anyway!

This requires a commitment from you all, which one would assume is ideal for a group such as this. There will never be a solution which everyone is happy with but that's life. There are some of you who want fewer meetings and some who want more. You can easily do both but really, those wanting fewer should be present at most of the "official" meetings otherwise what's the point?

Just my thoughts and I hope you don't mind and external opinion.

Warm regards

Mmmmmm, those are some great metaphors. It must have been a fun meeting pulling those together. It's a pretty important to step to go beyond pulling down the old metaphors (God is NOT my father) but quite another one to come up with some new ones. Thanks.

I am only going to GB on Saturday as well, so 8pm then sounds good. Tea or beer? Which will be quieter?

We're only going on the Saturday and possibly the Friday evening. So one of those days. I suggest 8.00pm on the Saturday. this is just after Pete Rollins, and it doesn't seem to clash with much. Tiny tea tent of the beer tent (doesn't seem to clash with beer and hymns).

i've made more changes and added a B&W version, which is probably more realistic in terms of printing. It's trifold A4.

Does anyone have easy access to B&W copying and a folding machine?

Sorry for a very late response - holidays, headcolds etc.

I like the handout. It is busy but there is a fair amount of information to convey. I like the inclusion of short write-ups on recent reflectives. Does it fold in three?

Thanks again for taking this on, Jenny. Excellent initiative!
